There is only one reason why you should not tithe and that is because GOD’S WORD IS ABSOLUTE meaning it does not change. Changing God’s word or commandment is a sin as according to the bible because it’s a transgression of His word (1 John 3:4). It’s like putting a word in God’s mouth when what He said is different from what someone said.
Before the law, tithing was not regulated by God. He did not command it yet, tithing before the Law simply means giving 10% and, that 10% could be anything and can be given to anyone. Who is anyone to say what is the 10% before the law like; fixing it to money and for the church only when God did not regulate it yet?
The tithe that was regulated and was commanded was the tithe under the law. During this time, the 10% did not simply mean 10% or tithing rather, it comes with a regulation of what to give and who to give it. When someone says “obey tithing”, it means they are referring to the tithe under the law because before you obey something, someone must have commanded it first for you to know what to obey and how to obey it. So, what was the regulation set up by God for you to obey the tithing commandment? Well;
- “And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’s. It is holy to the LORD. Leviticus 27:30 NKJV “ – the option to tithe from the land was whether seed of the land or fruits of the tree apparently, money was not in the option when money was already in use that time.
- “Behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tithes in Israel as an inheritance in return for the work which they perform, the work of the tabernacle of meeting.” Numbers 18:21 NKJV” “And indeed those who are of the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a commandment to receive tithes from the people according to the law, that is, from their brethren, though they have come from the loins of Abraham;” Hebrews 7:5 NKJV ” –Levites has the commandment to collect tithe it was not given to any other tribe or to any Gentile priest. Melchizedek though He was a Gentile priest was not commanded to collect tithing. There is no record that Abraham was commanded to tithe nor Melchizedek was commanded to collect it. Going beyond what the word of God says is just a speculation.
So there, going back to the main reason why you should not tithe which is GOD’S WORD IS ABSOLUTE, if you cannot obey the regulation on tithing that God set up, then don’t obey otherwise, you’ll risk changing God’s word.
It’s your choice, may I remind you that changing God’s word is a transgression hence, a sin.
