Melchizedek was not a Levite yet collected tithes

The go-to argument of a tithe believer to prove that not only Levites collected tithes is Abraham tithe to Melchizedek who was not a Levite. They argue that Melchizedek was not a Levite yet collected tithes, therefore, non-Levites such as Pastors/Preachers can also collect it.

This is how they confuse you.

They would say that Pastors/Preachers today are under the Melchizedek priesthood and since Melchizedek collected it, Pastors/Preacher can also do the same.

At this point, you are probably stumped and would probably be convinced that, yes, preacher/pastor who is not Levites can collect it.

What you have not noticed or did not pay attention is that the tithe believer said, Pastors/Preacher are under Melchizedek priesthood to which is exactly the reason why Preacher/Pastor should not collect it. Why? because Pastors/Preacher are under or beneath the priesthood of Melchizedek and the one who collected tithe of Abraham was not a priest beneath Melchizedek rather, it was Melchizedek himself. Only Jesus Christ has the same priesthood as Melchizedek all others, are under their priesthood.

“If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood—and indeed the law given to the people established that priesthood—why was there still need for another priest to come, one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron?

He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever served at the altar. For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests. And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. For it is declared: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”Hebrews‬ ‭7:11, 13-17‬ ‭

The question now becomes, who allows that those priests under Melchizedek priesthood who are not Levites can collect tithe? Biblically, only Melchizedek and Levites collected tithes.

1 Response to Melchizedek was not a Levite yet collected tithes

  1. Craig says:

Tithing was only commanded under Mosaic Law and the commanded tithe was always food – never money. While chastising the Pharisees in Matthew 23:23, Jesus even noted that tithing was a matter of the law, and not even a weightier matter at that. Abram was recorded as only tithing ONCE on war spoils (other people’s stuff) to the King of Salem (Melchizedek). He returned the rest, minus a small portion for his troops to the King of Sodum. No one else prior to Mosaic Law, e.g Noah, is recorded as ever having tithed. As for the Church, we are free to give as purposed in our hearts and not of necessity, but we will reap as we sow (2Cor9:6-7). The only people trying to create confusion are pro-tithe camp who are trying to keep the Church in bondage.
