The 1st interpretation is always literal if it does not make sense literally, only then, you switch to figurative.
So, how to explain below in literal sense?
“For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father”? Or again, “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son”?”Hebrews 1:5 NIV
The verse above; “Today, I have become your father”. Now, to say this, God must have had an audience (the angels) since God is seemingly introducing His Son to them. But, if this is the case, it will contradict with Colossians 1:15 which says, the Son is the firstborn over all creation yet, He is being introduced to Angels as if Angels was created first? How then will you work around this contradiction so that, the contradiction is gone?
Well, the keyword is the word “TODAY” in Hebrews 1:5. A day for a man is 24hours but, for God, it is indefinite since God Himself is the creation of time. God will not obey time rather, time obeys God. So, having said this, God must have created the Son and Angels on the same day but, the Son was the 1st creation follows by the Angels but all done on the same day. Take note, The term “Today” does not indicate the time within the day so that, you’ll know who’s who was created first.
In this explanation, the contradiction is gone. He was the 1st born among all angels created on the same day. Today is a term that applies to any time within the day. So, God must have said it in the later part after the angels were created but, still on the same day hence, “Today”
It’s like, twins born on the same day but 30 minutes apart.
When I say to the 1st twin who came out, “Today you were born”, it does not mean that that 2nd twin was the one who comes out first. “Today” applies to both and today, does not specify what time during the day so that, you can identify who came out first.
Now, why then the confusion? Why does it seem like, the son was only begotten in the book of Matthew?
Well because, the son was only introduced in the later part to humans but, was already introduce to Angles in the day they were all created. Notice in Hebrews 1:5, it says “Again”, The Son was begotten today, God was already a Father on that very day yet, He said, again I will be to His Father. Why?
Its because, in the day the Son and Angels were created, God already knows the future and, He already made up His mind that in the future to come, He will let His son or His Image be born through a woman and so, He again will be His Father. Angels were told already about this plan on the day they were created because the verse Hebrews 1:5 was talking to the Angels.
To us man, it sure is confusing because He was born only in Matthew. But, to Angels, the Son was the first ever created by God then follows them (Angels), created all in the same day.
