Recently, I had a conversation with one of the proponents of tithing as according to Mal 3:10.
In the conversation that we had, he tried to trap me and confuse me.
This is how he tried to do it.
He asked whether the boxes of food can buy clothes.
I answered, “just give clothes directly”
Then, with that answer, he connected it to Mal 3:10 implying that according to me, Mal 3:10 can be clothes.
And, when I corrected him since his question did not even mention Mal 3:10 to imply what he was trying to imply.
He then proceeded to ask about whether our topic was about tithe or 10%. Take note, he did not ask whether the topic was about Mal 3:10. And, when I said Yes! He again thought that I admitted that the topic was about Mal 3:10 and so, my answer about the clothes was to him related to Mal 3:10.
He seem to think that whenever I say 10%, he thought I’m referring to Mal 3:10.
10% is just a measure. It is a part of the percentage family. It was used in the bible and is being used outside the bible i.e., in accounting, engineering, etc. Abraham used it as a measure when he gave to Melchizedek, Jabob used it when he vows to God and, God regulates the 10% into food (Lev 27:30,32) and was to be given to Levites (Num. 18:21/Heb. 7:5). Mal. 3:10 is bound to that regulation on what and to whom it shall be given. One should not use Mal 3:10 to imply giving because it will just be transgressed rather than obeying it. It’s simply not doable. See here
It happened again when I said the below:
What exactly did I say? Did I say that Mal 3:10 is used in accounting? Nope! I said 10% is used in accounting, it’s just a measure anyway.
But, he thought that I was referring to Mal 3:10. My wording could not be any clearer and I quote.
“Ginagamit din ang 10% sa accounting”.
I did not say;
“Ginagamit din ang Mal 3:10 sa accounting”
Yet, he thought differently as below;
But, this did not surprise me really, they already have done this approach in Mal 3:10.
Mal 3:10 is an instruction coming from God.
In that verse as below, it did not say WHO shall collect the tithe and bring to the storehouse. It has to be read in conjunction with Nehemiah 10:38.
“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the LORD of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.” Malachi 3:10 NKJV
“And the priest, the descendant of Aaron, shall be with the Levites when the Levites receive tithes; and the Levites shall bring up a tenth of the tithes to the house of our God, to the rooms of the storehouse.” Nehemiah 10:38 NKJV
So clearly, it was Levites job to bring the tithes to storehouse but he thought differently. What was instructed for the Levites to collect, they collected it in spite of them being not Levites causing God’s instruction in Mal 3:10 to change.
What he did to me, changing what I said was just an echo of a bigger issue which he did also to the instruction of God in Mal 3:10.
Lo! this is what money can do.
Perhaps, this just one of the many.
I hope his follower realized that the same as Levites in the old, he is causing many to stumble (Mal 2:8) on the law by teaching or changing the word of God in relation to Mal 3:10.
