The Genesis as the book of creation is obviously not a complete book, it only outlines what had happened in the past that is necessary to our faith. I do believe that in between verses, there are gaps that we can analyze so we can place discoveries of men to coincide with genesis not contradict it. One discovery of men that seemingly contradicted with the bible was the dinosaurs. Where do these big creatures and what happened to them fit in the book of Genesis?
Well, I do believe that they were created in the verse below:
“And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.” Genesis 1:25 NKJV
This was day 6 just before the man was created. It has been said that humans did not co-exist with dinosaurs since they will just be prey to these carnivorous creatures.
I also believe that what happened to dinosaurs occur somewhere in between Gen 1:25 and Gen 1:26. Scientists have long theorized that the dinosaurs met their demise at the hands of a giant asteroid but, if we are to be biblical about this, this was due to the war in heaven which I believe happened also in between Gen 1:25 and Gen 1:26, these creatures were simply collateral damage of the war that broke out.
“And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” Revelation 12:7-9 NKJV
Some say that the above are yet to happen therefore my premise is impossible but, I do agree with Randy Alcorn when he said the below;
Scripture often has an “already and not yet” aspect to it. We are already saved (delivered from penalty of sin), but we are being saved (delivered from power of sin) and will be saved in the future (delivered from the presence of sin).
Similarly, Satan has already been defeated (thrown out of heaven and defeated by Christ’s atonement resurrection), he is being defeated (in a present battle described in Ephesians 6), and he will be defeated in the final battle. So the war in heaven has happened in the past, is happening now, and will happen in the future for the final time. So Rev. 12:7 has past, present and future implications all at once. It appears to me to be primarily a statement of what happened in the past when Satan in the first battle was kicked out of Heaven, but it will happen again in sort of a final battle that will end the war once and for all. Now, let me break down what likely had happened in between Gen 1:25 and Gen 1:26. Take note, the per day of creation did not happen in a literal day as the verse says;
“But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is “like” a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” 2 Peter 3:8 NIV
1 day to the Lord is LIKE a thousand years. Does it mean that 1 day = 1000 years. The text says ‘one day is like [or as] a thousand years’—the word ‘like’ (or ‘as’) shows that it is a figure of speech, called a simile, to teach that God is outside of time (because He is the Creator of time itself). In fact, the figure of speech is so effective in its intended aim precisely because the day is literal and contrasts so vividly with 1000 years—to the eternal Creator of time, a short period of time and a long period of time may as well be the same. Meaning, a day to the lord may range from day 1 to billion years.
Having said the above, day 6 in itself whereby Genesis 1:25-26 was written happened in a duration ranging from million to even billion years and, what happened to the dinosaurs took place in between these verses.
Going back, after God created dinosaurs in Gen 1:25, Lucifer who took care of these creatures, for some reason, perhaps of jealousy since God was about to create a man in His image convinced 1/3 of the angels (Rev 12:4) to go to war against God. Remember, these were powerful spiritual beings and when the war broke out, the earth shakes, meteors fell down, the volcano erupts causing creatures in Gen 1:25 to be destroyed even causing the continents to be separated.
When the war finally subside and Lucifer along with 1/3 of the angels were thrown to earth, God created a garden in the east of Eden.
“The LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed.” Genesis 2:8 NKJV
“Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.” Genesis 2:15 NKJV
The man was created outside the garden and was only placed inside of it. Since Lucifer and his angels were at this point already roaming around the earth, the garden aside from tending and keeping it, the garden also served as a secured place safe from these fallen angels.
In this garden, God created again those that were destroyed due to the war but this time, the animals were more friendly so that man can now dominate over them even named them one by one.
“And the LORD God said, “ It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name.” Genesis 2:18-19 NKJV
Unfortunately, there was one creature who was cunning among all the beast that was used by the fallen angels to deceive the man so that, they can be evicted from the garden to finally be exposed to these fallen angels.
“Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”Genesis 3:1 NKJV
When Cain said the below;
“Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; I shall be hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen that anyone who finds me will kill me.”Genesis 4:14 NKJV
He was actually referring to these fallen angels. They were the only one capable of killing another being.
